Regular Meeting: Community Caring

Date:
Wednesday, January 17, 2018 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
This meeting will be a special and significant addition to our holidays just past. This inspiring evening will be led by Hayforker Helen Stone. (She is also director of the Roderick Center.)
Hayfork Cooperative warmly invites you to come out Wednesday, January 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. to help extend the holiday season of celebrating peace, friendship and community. Take note that this meeting will not take place in our usual venue, but will be held at the Yoga Center/Studio in Hayfork behind Norel-Pom on state hwy. 3. We will start by looking into a face of grave darkness and see how it has has been turned into a bountiful garden of caring in Las Vegas in response to the horrific random shootings that happened there. Come see. Plus bring your ideas about how we can bring our community together into greater caring and cooperation.
The Las Vegas shootings on October 1 will be remembered as one of the most brutal displays of inhumanity in our nation's history. Yet from that unspeakable tragedy bloomed an effort that showed the true compassion, love and caring that we can show each other. Within a week, a garden dedicated to healing the torn souls of Las Vegas was designed, installed and open to survivors, families, friends, and anyone who needs comfort. Join us on January 17 as we learn about the amazing healing power of plants...and people.
Hayfork resident Helen Stone was a landscape industry professional in Las Vegas for almost 20 years, and friends with the designer and one of the main contractors at the Healing Garden, Shirl McMayon. She will be sharing a PowerPoint presentation by McMayon on this remarkable project, with additional personal photos. From a dusty vacant lot to a lush garden complete with 58 trees for the victims, a remembrance wall celebrating their lives, and a "Tree of Life" to remind us all that there is always hope, this heart-warming project reminds us that even in the midst of pure evil, love and compassion can reign. This is a free event open to all.
